Is Consideration Dead?

Okay. Here's my first rant. Now I'm thinking perhaps "Tranquil Tales" wasn't the best name for my blog. LOL

But am I the only one that's noticed that most people have no shopping courtesy? People just stop -- RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AISLE -- leave their cart and walk away. You can't get around them! If they would just pull that cart over to the side of the aisle where they're going, they wouldn't gum up the whole shopping lane. And heaven help you if you say, "excuse me" to get by them; they look at you like you just committed a crime.

Unfortunately, I think this is a result of the "ME-centeredness" of our society. It wouldn't occur to them to think about anybody else. My impulse is to tell them what I think, in a sweet little voice, of course: "You know, if you'd park this buggy over here [as I move it out of my way], everyone else could shop, too." But then I'd be guilty of the same self-centeredness, because I know they wouldn't listen and I would only be doing it to make myself feel better.

The best thing I can do, I suppose, is to not become a victim of the "I am the center of the world" mentality. Every time I pull my cart over to the edge of the aisle, I'll consider it a victory over the inconsiderate, selfish shoppers so rampant in the store. I'll not give in to them! I'll not be pulled down to their rudeness! No, I'll prove that consideration is not dead; just on life support!

Convinced at Last

I can hardly believe that I've finally gotten a blog. I've resisted. My life is busy, and I don't need anything else I have to do. I didn't want to start a blog and never post on it. The guilt over another thing I don't do well or on time is guilt I just don't need.

On the other hand, I am talkative, and don't have a reputation for keeping my opinions to myself. So I've given in to the peer pressure, and started a blog. Whether I do it often or well, only time will tell.
